A Virtual Guide To Martha Stewart’s Home And Pets

Martha Stewart, as you might know, loves animals.

Martha herself once wrote that she had a mini “ark” living at her Bedford, NY estate. Throughout her life, she has claimed to own “at least 20 cats, 25 dogs, 10 chinchillas, scores of canaries and parakeets, two ponies, three donkeys, 10 horses, many sheep and goats, hundreds of chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, peacocks, and homing pigeons.”

Anyway, Martha frequently posts pics of her 21 peacocks!

Here’s a pic of an all-white peacock during mating season — wow.

Last year, Martha talked to the Today Show about her three cats (she used to have nine): calico Persian kitties Princess Peony and Empress Tang, and recent adoptee, Blackie.

Martha also has “five fun-loving donkeys” (as she wrote on her blog): Rufus, Clive, Billie, Jude “JJ” Junior, and Truman “TJ” Junior.

Earlier this year, Martha shared a beautiful pic of her “beautiful new Friesians.” “Arrived from Holland two days ago!!,” she shared. “Happily ensconced in its new and spacious stall in my barn in Katonah.”

As of 2020, Martha is also a dog mom to four pups: two French Bulldogs named Creme Brulee and Bete Noire, and two Chow Chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin.

And let’s not forget the many, many, many chicken and geese.

Anyway, it’s hard to know *exactly* how many pets Martha has, but suffice it to say, she has an entire farm’s worth. (And it is a very, very beautiful farm.)

As for the estate, Martha’s153-acre Bedford farm dates back to 1784, according to Wide Open Country. And apparently her next-door neighbor is none other than designer Ralph Lauren.

Martha purchased the property in 2000, and she lives in the three-story Winter House. The property also features a Summer House, a tenant’s cottage (turned into guest quarters), Maple Avenue Guest House, and another contemporary home.

“Just thinking about this amazing group [of pets] astonishes me,” Martha wrote about her animals in 2018. “And I realize how much I’ve learned from caring for them all, and how much joy they’ve given me.”

Ummm, yeah. I would NEVER leave.
